Help us to help them

Status: Available

*Phoenix is available for adoption in the UK *

Phoenix came to the shelter in January 2015 after a man approached the shelter asking for help. Phoenix was originally part of a six-puppy litter, but sadly three had passed away. Although we were full, we couldn’t say no. She was adopted by a family in the UK in September 2015 and has lived with them ever since.

Unfortunately, due to a change of circumstances, we have been asked to find Phoenix a new home.

Phoenix is approximately eight years old and has been given a clean bill of health. She is spayed and up-to-date with her vaccinations.

We are looking for an experienced home for her as she is a nervous dog and can be reactive to people on bikes/scooters, joggers, and people approaching who she hasn’t spotted in advance. She is nervous of new people coming into the home and will bark initially, but is very loving with people once she gets to know them. She isn’t aggressive in any way, just scared. In the home, she reacts to outside noises - a countryside or semi-suburban area would suit her best.

Phoenix loves other dogs but does not always respect their boundaries. She could live with another dog, but she would be equally as happy as an only dog, too.

She also loves children and currently lives with a toddler, but she is quite boisterous and can jump up at them. She does not cope well if children are running around, and will often try to ‘herd’ them. Therefore, we are only considering homes with children aged 13 years or more.

Phoenix hasn’t lived with cats before, so it is difficult to predict how she would react to them. Given her chase and herd behaviours, we feel it might be better for her to be in a cat-free home.

Phoenix’s current owners have described her as being “gentle” and “loving”. She is very intelligent and knows many commands, including: ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘roll over’, ‘crawl’ and ‘spin’. She really is a lovely dog with lots of love to give. Her new family should be able to provide her with lots of exercise, training and support when she is nervous and/or reactive.

She is house-trained, currently raw-fed and sleeps downstairs in an open crate or on the sofa. Phoenix is currently in the Dorset area, but we are happy to re-home her anywhere in the UK.

If you feel you could offer this beautiful girl the perfect home, please email us at for an application form. An adoption fee and home check will apply.
