  • Einstein

Einstein was bred by a vet in Bulgaria. This pup was going to be killed for no other reason than his front leg was deformed and he couldn't be sold. Elena Petkova who brought Odin to us, asked if we could help this pup and take him in. He is now with Kerry and Kosta in Veliko Turnovo and will stay there and be loved and cared for until he is adopted. His leg doesn't drag on the ground and a number of vets have said that nothing should be done. He has adapted to getting about on just three legs and uses his deformed legs for holding things like when he is playing with toys or has treats. Einstein is a perfect little boy. Despite his leg he manages fine, he never stops and loves to play with the other dogs. He is very loyal and won't leave your side. Loves hugs and kisses, a fantastic dog.

Liam phoned Tony to say that him and Tyson had found a tiny pup dumped by the road side. They heard a pup crying and went scrambling up a bank and eventually found the pup by a road further up the mountain. april 2011 Skippy was so small and thin and scared when we found him. Within a few days, he learnt to trust people and is now a really loving little pup. He loves attention and plays well with the other pups. He is a really sweet natured little boy.

Jackson was rescued along with his brother and sister on a steep bank, under a garage on the river edge, if they had fell dow off the edge they would have had a high drop down to the river and surely drowned. Found March 2011 Jackson has always been a very loving and friendly little boy. He loves people and plays very well with all the other pups. He has a very slight deformity in that his front legs are rather bowed, but this doesn't affect his movement in any way. he still runs and plays with people and the other dogs.

  • Dalila

Dalila was found in the town centre on the 1st March 2011. She was lost and confused. We suspect someone had abandoned when they couldn't afford to feed her anymore or they simply didn't want her. Dally as we call her had obviously had litters of pups before we found her and was pregnant again. She gave birth to 8 lovely pups and was a very good mum, but after three weeks she decided she has had enough and has to be coaxed into going back to her pups. Dally is a Barak type which we have always found to be very good natured dogs. when she first came to us she just didn't enjoy the company of other animals. she would avoid and ignore them and give a grumble if they got to close. Over the past few weeks she has surprised us all by playing with the kitten and she adores one of the younger female dogs who plays with her and cuddles up to her at nights. She is a very calm natured girl who loves attention and the rest of the time will just lie down near to you. She has been very good and friendly with everyone that she has met including friends of the boys that she hasn’t met before and our two year old granddaughter who she recently met for the first time. She stayed in the staff room at the shelter building with Diane when she was on her own. Due to Dally loving everyone we didn’t think she would be very good if ever there was an intruder, but when Diane was alone and a strange man walked into the staffroom one day, she did go for him. This shows that despite her loving nature she is very loyal and would protect her owner if she felt they were under threat. She is very clean indoors, a fantastic companion but also very greedy and loves her food.

  • Queenie

Queenie was living on the streets. She was very weak and hungry. On the 17th February, Nikolai (Tyson) turned up to help walk puppies and he had brought Queenie up with him on a lead. She had marks round her neck so we suspect she had once belonged to someone before being abandoned on the streets. Queenie has a lovely temperament. Queenie looks very much like a German Shepherd. She has always been very nice natured with anyone that she has ever met and has played nicely with any dogs that she has met. Like a lot of Shepherds though, she will bark at dogs and people outside of the garden until she knows we have let them in. Queenie must have fallen pregnant just before we rescued her and gave birth while she was with us to 7 healthy pups. It has taken quite a bit out of her, rearing 7 pups when she was in such a poor condition to start with. She now needs to put weight back on and get condition back but once she has, she will be a beautiful girl.

Molson was found by Liam in the town center. He was alone and scared and had probably been abandoned. Despite being scared when Liam first found him, Molson soon became very affectionate and just loves attention. He has spent time with older bigger dogs, tiny pups and is now pups nearer to his own age. He has got on very well with all of the dogs and pups that he has ever met.

  • Kasumi

Kasumi is a young husky who was found by the roadside with her four pups. kasumi is a lovely natured girl. She is always happy to see people and loves to play with a ball or any of her toys. We were told that she was seen in the forest with her pups before we found her and she has probably never lived inside a house. She would therefore have to go to someone who had the time and patience to train her not to jump up at worktops or on furniture. She loves being groomed and is very affectionate. Kasumi is at the Rudozem branch where unfortunately we do not have a vet who can spay females. It is in the adoption contract that RSDR dogs must never be used for breeding and we would insist that any adoptant does get her spayed within a few months to ensure that she is never used for breeding.

Boo Bear is one of four pups that we took in on the 11th March 2010. The pups were only 3 weeks old but the man who owned the mother said that he couldn't keep them any longer. They were outside in a kennel with nothing to stop them from rolling out of the kennel and down a bank. the temperatures were still dropping to -15 at nights and there was every chance that the pups would have died. Boo Bear is a fantastic pup. He loves people and is always happy to see someone and get a fuss without being over excitable. He has always got on very well with any other dogs or pups.

A man came to the house and asked us to take this lovely little girl and her 2 pups because his wife was going to throw them out on the streets, the reason is because one of the pups has a small bald patch on its head. Padme is a very friendly little girl. Although she didn’t know us when she first came, she was still very friendly and just wanted lots of attention and to be loved. She loves playing with all the other dogs but sometimes can get a little bossy with them.

On the 25th February, we collected a litter of pups that we had been keeping an eye on since they were born. They were only three weeks old and their mother is a feral dog who won't let people get anywhere near her. We were asked by someone to take the pups away when they were just a day old. We explained that the soonest we would take them would be at 3 weeks old. The pups had started to walk about and there was the danger that local children might start messing with them or someone would move or kill them. The four pups are all girls. Shirley is a very friendly outgoing pup who loves people and plays well with the other pups and dogs.
