A kind thank you from Samantha Rowles from RSDR on Crufts Crufts went great, we got more donated items than I ever expected. We also hopefully raised enough awareness of the way the street dogs live and are treated, which hopefully with fingers crossed might result in more adoptions for our four legged friends. Julie, Colin and everyone were great, and I cannot thank them enough aswell would like to say a wonderful thank you to Marc and his helpers who were all wonderful & really nice. It was a pleasure sharing a stand with them, Thank you. Interview with Samantha Rowles and Marc the Vet below. If you cannot view the above video: Please press on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0wY9QJ8f6s Update on Crufts from Julie Lewis, Joint Fundraising Co-Ordinator Well, after an early start rallying the troups on Sunday morning, we arrived at the NEC in Birmingham bleary eyed at 7.30am. After unloading the car, we got into the arena and found our stall...crikey, all that white space to fill with our RSDR posters!! The team were great, we had quite a production line going and before long the walls were covered with colourful pictures of the RSDR dogs, past and present. Then Marc arrived which was great as we finally managed to meet him face to face and thank him for having us as his guests for the day. As the public started to pour in, we soon realised that it wasn't going to be feasible for us all to stay at the stand so we paired up and drifted off to see what interest we could create amongst the many stall holders there. Armed with free pens and business cards, we approached stands to tell them about RSDR and to request, cadge, and even beg items from them! Each venture resulted in an amazing range of 'booty' which we took back to our stand to store until the end of the day. Where possible, we got items that would benefit the dogs directly, such as food, supplements and treats but we also were amazed by the generosity of those companies who donated items for us to use to raise further funds for RSDR, including a clock, limited edition dog print, doggy bowls etc. As a thank you to them for their support, we have promised to list them all on the RSDR website. Keep your eyes on the RSDR website for future fundraising news; I have now been bitten by the bug and want to get to as many events as possible! Photo below: of RSDR with Marc the Vet. Photo Above: Some of the wonderful items donated Thank you for all the wonderful Donations at Crufts: Biscuit tin with scoop – The Little Dog Laughed brand http://www.gwfnutrition.com/ (Stephen Tucker) www.littlegifts.com / http://www.fraserstudios.com/ Google these guys, they appear in lots of links eg Amazon etc http://www.lilyskitchen.co.uk/ www.pfukonline.com / http://www.barkingheads.info/ http://www.berrimansdogfood.co.uk/ http://www.elitedogstands.com/ http://www.animal-health.co.uk/ http://www.bergsinternational.com/ http://www.animalbrackets.co.uk/ Black Medium Bridle Canicross belt/line and Harness
By the end of the day, we were all shattered, feet were aching and we had so many things we weren't sure that we would all fit in the car for the journey home! Sam and I had both fallen victim to either radio or video interviews and I even shook hands with Peter Purves....for those UK folk that remember him from his Blue Peter days!
I hope that the people we talked to will remember RSDR and visit the website, fingers crossed that they will sponsor a dog or make a donation to the cause. Marc said that he would have us back with him again next year but we've already decided that we will be there again no matter what as it is a fantastic opportunity to be amongst the doggy fraternity and widen support for Diane, Tony and the dogs.
Finally, I would just like to say a MASSIVE thank you to the team of the day, Colin, Heather, Rachael, Lisa and of course not forgetting Sam and Nikita without whom it would have been impossible to have made the day such a success.

How we got a stand on Crufts

Just shows you what fate brings.......I bought some tablets off ebay for Zeus, Diane and Tony's old German Shepherd dog to try and ease his arthritis. Being cheeky, and as I always do when buying for RSDR, I emailed the seller to see if they could give me some discount or reduce the postage. The lady, Sally and I exchanged a few long emails after this. She was touched by the plight of the dogs in Bulgaria and having seen the work Diane and Tony are doing (I also sent her the website link!) said that not only would she do a discount that she would pay the postage costs as her donation. We continued to share emails and phone calls and she told me more about the work she does with another dog charity who had been offered to share a stand at this year's Crufts dog show. For those of you not familiar with Crufts, it is the worlds biggest dog show, hosted by the Kennel Club and which has been running since 1891 in the UK. To cut a long(ish) story shorter the other charity decided that they would not attend Crufts but by this time, Sally had mentioned to Marc another deserving charity she supports, and they too had to contemplate if they could go or not????? Sally spoke again to Marc and it was thought that possibly Marc might let RSDR have the stand. For a few days, I had to wait to hear if they were going to attend....and luckily for RSDR, they couldn't rally enough troops. Sally gave Marc all our information, he then contacted me, we chatted for ages, as Marc wanted to find out more about RSDR and he had clearly been through the RSDR web site with a fine tooth comb. Yes, we were offered the stand for the day! and on the busiest day - the Sunday!! So, on Sunday March 14th 2010, you will be able to see RSDR sharing a stand with Marc Abraham, a fantastic vet who has been on TV and who campaigns against puppy farming and animal cruelty. He supports many charities, not just in the UK but around the world and is excited about having RSDR along on the final day of the show. You can find out more about Marc and see the link to RSDR on his blog by clicking on this link http://www.marcthevet.com/2010/02/dfs-crufts-vip-guests-line-up-announced/
If you are in the UK and can make the trip to Birmingham NEC, please come along to the stand and say Hello; it will be great to meet fellow supporters of RSDR. We will be selling some of the items on sale in the webstore, T shirts, wristbands, greetings cards etc and my (small) team of volunteers are going to be shaking tins to try and raise funds for the cause. We will also spend the day visiting other stands to raise awareness amongst exhibitors and suppliers taking whatever 'freebies' we can get to send on to Diane and Tony.
I am so excited about this fantastic opportunity who would have thought that RSDR would ever receive such a chance to reach so many people in just one day. Our stand is right opposite the main entrance so we're hoping to attract lots of attention - you won't be able to miss us I'm sure!
Anyone who would like to help on the day can contact me for more details by emailing julie.lewis65@yahoo.co.uk but please, only definite offers of help please as I don't have time to sift through the maybe's. I'm sure you can all appreciate, we have a lot of work to do from now until the big day!!
So to finish, I would like to say a HUGE thank you to Sally for arranging all of this and to Marc for welcoming us to his stand. Also big thanks to Anita, RSDR's Fundraising and Media Co-ordinator for offers of help with posters etc and of course to our founders, Diane and Tony, without them RSDR would not be in existence.
