ALL ADOPTIONS ARE ON HOLD UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

RSDR Dogs

If you would like to adopt a RSDR dog, please go to our Adopt page and fill out an adoption questionnaire for your relevant country.

The adoption contribution for dogs towards transport is 290 euros to the Netherlands and 310 British Pounds to the UK.

 * Please note: As at 14 October 2014, unfortunately we had to raise our adoption prices, due to the increase in petrol prices &  vignettes with our transporter.

All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, wormed & flea treated before travelling.  Each dog comes with their own EU Pet Passport & an Export Certificate is generated for TRACES.

**Please note that size, coat type and in some cases age, are only estimates based on the dogs at the time that they are with us. Where it is known, we do give the exact date of birth, but for many pups and dogs found on the streets, this isn't always possible. With pups that we have found on the streets and don't know anything of their parentage, it can sometimes be difficult to predict their adult size. **

PHOTOS / VIDEOS  -  For each of the dogs shown you can also see their own individual photo album on our PHOTO GALLERY or videos on our YOUTUBE PAGE

Please also check our REHOMERS Page for any dogs that need re-homing in the UK or Netherlands.

Please also check our NETHERLANDS site for any dogs that are currently in foster in the Netherlands looking for their forever home.

Kula  (Currently in Foster Care in UK)

Kula

Gender: Male

Born: 26/7/2013

Size: Medium/Large

Measurements: Weighs 20 kilos and is 56cm

Coat/Hair: Short

Spayed/Neuter: Yes

Kula was found on the 21st August 2013. The boys were on their way to work at the shelter when they spotted three young pups at the side of the road. They were taken back to the shelter, where they were cared for and grew up into happy and healthy dogs.

Kula waited very patiently at the shelter for his forever home and, in February 2016, he was lucky enough to be selected to travel to a UK foster home. Having been at the shelter most of his life, it has taken him time to adjust to living in a home environment; getting used to traffic, new people, noises and smells, but he has adjusted ever so well and is now ready to find a family of his own.

He is a happy and affectionate boy: he greets you in the morning with a wagging tail and a big hug and loves nothing more than snuggling up to you on the sofa at every available opportunity. He loves to play; he chases his toys and then cheekily runs away with them so you have to chase after him. He has a good nose and really enjoys scent games and finding hidden treats.

Kula can be a little weary of strangers at first but once he gets to know someone, he is affectionate and happy to see them. Unfortunately, he is very timid around children so we are looking for an adult-only home for him. Ideally, we would love him to live in the countryside (as the city can be a little too busy) and have a garden to run around and play in.

He is housetrained, travels well in the car and is fine to be left for a few hours each day.

Kula currently shares his home with two other dogs. Although he gets on well with them both, we feel he would be happier to be the only dog in the household so he doesn’t have to share the cuddles! He also lives with a cat, with whom he has formed a respectful relationship, though this has taken some work. Whilst out on walks, Kula can be reactive towards other dogs but with a slow introduction he makes friends. We are therefore looking for an experienced and confident owner who is able to take over his training.

This lovely boy enjoys his walks in the countryside, sniffing through woods and jumping into ponds. He walks well on a lead and knows some basic commands.

He will make a wonderful and loyal companion for someone who is able to provide the time and patience he may need to settle into a new home. He really is a special boy who deserves a family of his own.

In October 2016 on the way back from taking the passports to the Traces office we spotted this older pup walking towards us on a very busy road in some distress. He had a broken front leg, very thin, covered in dirt and fleas. We have treated him for fleas and gave him something for the pain. He is now comfortable & safe at the shelter.

He is now doing superbly and can be seen walking and running around fine.

We were asked to take a husky mum and her four pups.

Charlie

Charlie arrived at the shelter on Sunday 23rd October 2016. He was found in a ditch, unable to move with a broken back. The people who found him took him to a vet and they were advised to put him to sleep. They contacted Liam and asked if we could help. Liam also didn't want to give up on him so he arranged that he was taken to Provets. On Sunday Liam collected him and it was confirmed that he has two broken vertebrae so his back legs are paralysed. We were unsure of his future and didn't know what his quality of life would be like but we have now tried him in a wheelchair and he took to it very well. The wheelchair we used is too big so we now need to get him his own wheels.

Nov 20th - Charlie after we first fitted his new wheels. There was no stopping him and he wasn't content being in the yard at the shelter he went up to the gate and wanted to test his new wheels on the road.

In December 2016, we rescued Clover and her three pups. It was obvious she had been thrown out by someone and had hidden away to give birth. We had seen her around the town and fed her whenever we came across her but we couldn't rescue her until we found out where her pups were.

Clover has settled into the shelter brilliantly; she is a beautiful and friendly girl who loves a fuss from everyone she meets.

On the 11 December 2016, we received a message asking if we could help Kotsi. He was in another town near to us and was skeleton thin and had a very badly broken back leg. The temperatures get to -14 during the nights so, with his short hair, he was really feeling the cold.

Kotsi went to the vets had x rays which showed his leg had been badly broken with severe damage to his nerves and ligaments. They decided the best course of action was to amputate it. Everyone at the Provet Clinic fell in love with him. They said he was a star but we already new that.

Kotsi is coping brilliantly with three legs; as soon as he got back from the vets he would not stop running about. Kotsi is a friendly, happy and affectionate boy.

In October 2016, a feral dog we have know for quite a while brought her pups down from the forest. We had known for weeks she was feeding pups but after several attempts we could not find her den. Then one afternoon we heard puppies outside the house and it became an emergency to catch the pups before they were killed by passing cars. Luckily two of the pups just lay down and we could easily pick them up, later on the mother dog went back into the forest and brought another pup to us. The pups are Eloi, Dee and Henry

In October 2016, a box full of puppies was found by one of our shelter lads, Kristofer.  It was just going dark and they had been dumped on the edge of town at the bins. Kristofer telephoned us in a panic so we set off to go rescue them. The pups would not have been alive by morning because if the foxes didn't get them they would have wandered off onto the busy road. The siblings are Che, Emy, Yuna, Eros, Luna, Bodhi and Elvin.

In October 2016 we were at the municipality shelter in Kardzhali, collecting two other dogs we had been asked to take. We spotted Bouncer trembling at the back of his pen. Nothing was known about him and we were told he had only been there a couple of days. After talking to him for a while, he came forward and was pressing his face against the wire to be stroked. Bouncer had bad open wounds on both his front legs, his back leg, another wound on top of his head and one at the side of his muzzle. There were other wounds all at different stages of healing. Knowing that he wouldn't survive the conditions there, we decided to take him back to our shelter

On the 13th February 2015, we were asked to rescue some pups that were in a school yard in another town. The temperatures were well below freezing and sadly other pups from the litter had died. Shannon was with her  sister, Ruby and brother Aslan.  Shannon was in a bad way and couldn’t get up. Aslan and Ruby were wary of people but we managed to catch them and bring them back to the house. The pups were starving and scared. Aslan and Ruby soon started to feel better after being wormed, treated for fleas and once they were getting puppy milk and good food. They were soon coming to us for a fuss and wanting to play. Shannon who was quite weak took a little longer.

The pups were moved to the shelter once they were confident and well enough.

Shannon mixes and plays well with the other dogs but she can still be quite timid around people she doesn’t know. Once she knows someone and feels safe with them, she is an affectionate and loving girl. We anticipate that a move to a new home will be quite stressful for her and she might take time to settle and get used to her new family. In view of this, we feel she would be better going to a calm and quiet household where there is already a confident and stable dog.

When he realised no one was going to buy her, he simply dumped her behind some garages. Hailey was born around the 7th November 2014. She was alone and very scared and was thin and hungry. Her coat was very dirty and matted. Hailey was so scared that despite being very hungry, she would only eat when everyone left the room. We kept Hailey at the house with our older dogs until she leant to trust people and gain confidence. She became a very loving girl and was moved up to the shelter where she would meet more people and mix with other dogs. Hailey is a lovely affectionate girl but she does sometimes need a bit of reassurance  when meeting new people or being in situations that are new to her.

On the 22nd January 2015, Liam found Lana all alone on a mountain road, one night. There were no other pups or a mother anywhere around. It was freezing and she could have frozen or starved to death or been attacked by wild animals. Lana was born around the 12th November 2014. She was very scared when she first arrived but was reassured by the company of the other dogs at the house. It wasn’t long before Lana gained confidence and was coming to us for a fuss with the other dogs. Lana was then moved to the shelter where she could meet and socialise with other dogs and meet more people. Lana can be nervous around people until she gets to know them and will sometimes grumble at strange dogs, so would suit an experienced home.

On the 2nd December 2014 someone turned up at the shelter with a box of three pups. The boys at the shelter explained that we had no free pens but the people put the box down and drove off. They said they had found the pups at the landfill. There were three little girl pups in the box who were born around the 30th September 2014. All were very scared and thin and hungry but within days they were all coming for a fuss and a cuddle. April is one of the pups.

April does take a while to get to know and trust people and can be reluctant about meeting new people. With people she knows she is very affectionate and loves a fuss. We are still working on building her confidence with new people.

Tony found Skye in the town centre on the 27th November 2014. She had been with a group of feral dogs but had got left behind and was very scared. Skye was timid around people when we first rescued her, so she stayed at the house for a while so we could spend more time with her. She soon became a very happy girl and gained confidence. Skye then moved to the staffroom at the shelter so she could get to meet more people and other dogs and pups. Skye can be a bit nervous of strangers.

We were told about two tiny pups in Ravninata. Tony and Tyson went to see them but they were hiding in a storm drain under the road and they couldn’t get near them. On the 14th July someone managed to catch them and brought them to the shelter. There were actually five pups but sadly two of them died as they all had an infection. All the pups were unused to people and terrified when they first arrived.  A lot of time was spent getting them used to people and building their confidence.  Hali and Kenya now love a fuss and jump up at the pen as soon as he they see  someone. They both play well with the other pups.

Video Story on Khalessi

On the morning of the 12th May 2014, Tony noticed that someone had posted on the RSDR fan page asking if we could help a dog in another town. The dog was in a terrible state being extremely thin and with practically no hair. There was a link to a news article showing pictures of her and they were asking if someone could catch her and put her to sleep as people were worried that she was diseased. We set off on the 70 km journey to try and find her.

We managed to find her  and called her to us. She was cowering as she approached but she was just so desperate for contact. She has to be one of the saddest cases we have seen.  Khaleesi appeared to have deformed front legs and was so weak. She had no hair but was covered in fleas and ticks and had a torn ear.  She had many visits to the vets and full blood works taken regularly. She was very anaemic and had canine ehrlichiosis and sarcoptic mange. Her legs were supported and are now completely straight. She received medication for her other ailments and is now clear.

Khaleesi is a very loving girl. She is a real character and will play with you. She went through a stage of mouthing where she would gently take your hand or leg in her mouth but like most pups she is growing out of this stage. She does however still like to try and take my slippers when I am sitting down.

Khaleesi will bark at strangers but once she knows you have let someone in, she has a sniff and investigates them and very quickly becomes best buddies with them and just wants attention.  She has been great with all the dogs and pups she has met with the exception of one. One of our own dogs once had a go at her over a toy. Khaleesi didn’t instigate the argument but isn’t very forgiving, so we now have to keep them apart.  She loves to lie in the sun in the garden. She can be a bit stubborn at times if she doesn’t want to go somewhere so needs firm but gentle handling.

She is clean in the house and is used to being in a crate when travelling. She has never been destructive and we do not want her going anywhere where she will be shut in a crate at any time apart from during travel. Khaleesi would be better suited to a family without small children. She has never shown any nastiness but is quite a big girl and does like to play, so there would be the worry that she could knock a small child over. Khaleesi is a big girl and needs a home where there is a lot of space and she will have a big garden that she can play and lie out in when she wants to. She does play with other dogs but we would not adopt her to a home with another female due to her not getting on with one of our own female dogs. She currently shares her living space with Ragnar and they get on very well. Khaleesi is part Karakachan, so will need to go to a experienced owner of larger breeds, who will also need to read up about Karakachans and their nature.  She also would not suit being adopted to a home with cats.

August 2016 -  We have recently reviewed Khaleesis needs and because she has been so long at the shelter and the attachment between Ragnar and her are so closely bonded, we feel they need to be rehomed together.  They will need to be adopted to a home that does not have any other cats or dogs.

Video 1

On the 5th June 2014 Tony found Ragnar in the town. He was staggering about and was covered in puncture wounds which were full of maggots. He also had a very noisy chest and phlegm. The smell from his wounds was terrible. He did try and back away and bite when Tony picked him up but was so good when we were giving him a shower.

Ragnar was taken to the vets and  had an anasthetic so the vets could shave him and put drains in where the worst of his puncture wounds were. He had a bacterial ear infection  but all his blood work was quite good. Apart from anaemia probably due to parasites and a slightly high white cell count due to infection, everything else was ok and tests for heartworm and certain other things were all negative.

Ragnar has now healed well but does have quite a few scars. His wounds looked like a severe attack from another dog or maybe many dogs.

Ragnar is a very loyal and loyal boy once he gets to know you. He can sometimes be timid when he first meets people but just needs a bit of reassurance.

He does love to be on the balcony or out in the garden but he will bark when he sees people or dogs that he doesn’t know, passing the garden.

He is clean in the house and has never been destructive. He travels well and is used to a crate when travelling but we do not want him going anywhere where he will be put in a crate at any time other than travelling.  Ragnar is not suitable with cats.

August 2016 -  We have recently reviewed Ragnars needs and because he has been so long at the shelter and the attachment between Khaleesi and him are so closely bonded, we feel they need to be rehomed together.  They will need to be adopted to a home that does not have any other cats or dogs.

Dotty is a beautiful girl who is very sociable with other dogs.  She can be a little timid at times with people and usually takes the lead from her brothers before going to people for a fuss. Once she does come for a fuss, she is very affectionate. She would be better going to a home with another confident dog.

Arlo was brought to the shelter with her brother Leonard and sister Wendy on the 25th October 2012. We were told by the people who brought them that they had found the pups but don't think that is likely as they wouldn't have been able to catch them. They were all terrified of people. Arlo's sister and brother were more confident then Arlo.  It took a little while for her to trust people. She was born around the 12th July 2012

A few months later Arlo started losing hair on her face. She was constantly scratching her face and we put a collar on and treated her. After a few days she stopped scratching. Her hair however hasn't grown back on her face.  She is a lovely girl, but can still be timid and is a little shy when first meeting people.

On the 15th December 2013, two men brought a litter of five pups to the shelter. Nova was born around May 2010. We found her and her brother Acorn, hiding under a building in the town centre when they were just tiny pups. We had a lot of trouble catching them as they were so scared of people.

Nova is a very loving and affectionate girl but it took quite a while for her to learn to trust and we had to work on her confidence. She enjoys meeting people and gets on really well with other dogs. She has been with us for a long time so the shelter and everyone there are very familiar to her, therefore when she is lucky enough to be adopted, she might take a bit longer to settle and need quite a bit of reassurance.

Update - January 2017 - Tink has now recovered from her 2 operations and is now ready for adoption once again.

She had floating knee caps on her back legs and so had 2 separate operations, one at the beginning of 2016 and the other at the end of 2016. She is still on limited exercise but this is only because her last operation was in December 2016. The vets had said she will not need to return.

Shayla is one of Bonita’s pups. Bonita was rescued on the 27th july 2013. She was on the streets with her litter of young pups and they were being terribly abused. After children had killed one of her pups she was distressed and was barking and trying to protect the others. Local people were going to kill her.

Once caught, she calmed down when she realised we wouldn’t hurt and her pups.  Bonita is a lovely and affectionate girl.  Shayla has the same affectionate nature as her mum. She loves playing with the other pups.

We spotted this little girl in the town late afternoon on the 9th April. She was in a panic and had blood on her mouth. We pulled up and she ran under a parked car. Kerry managed to grab her and Tony quickly got her in the cage in the car. She didn't like people at all and put up a fight. Tony put welding gloves on to get her from the car to the cage in the staffroom because she was fighting and biting like a little Tasmanian Devil. We nick named her Tazzy and the name has stuck. At first she would growl and bark if anyone moved in the room and kept up a repetative high pitched bark. By the next day she was slowly coming round to us and just days later she was playing with us and the bigger dogs. She would go into a panic at any loud noises but gradually became more confident.  Tazzy is now a lovely confident girl and is very sociable with other dogs and anyone that she meets. Any family wanting to adopt her must appreciate that the move from the security of the shelter might upset her and she might take a while to settle again. Having said that she might just settle straight in to life in her new home. She is now a very affectionate girl.

Marbles came to us on the 11th april 2013. Tony was out taking the lads home from work when I heard a car sounding its horn outside. I went out and two men were parked in the yard. One opened his boot and handed me a sack with pups inside. He then showed me another sack with pups in. It is one time when I didn't even bother explaining that we have no free pens because the pups were wet, terrified and covered in their own mess. If I hadn't taken them, i don't like to think what would have happened to them.

Marbles and her siblings were very scared of people at first and took a lot of work to learn to trust. She is now a happy girl who loves a fuss. She is happy and playful and gets on great with other dogs that she meets. She would benefit from the security of being homed with another dog with a calm and confident nature.

Dutchie was found alone in the town centre on the 13th July 2013.  He was very hungry and happy to be found by Tony.  Dutchie has always been a very loving and friendly boy but when he first arrived he did have a bit of an attitude with other dogs. We didn’t have a spare pen for him so the only way we could take him in is if he lived with the other dogs and pups in the staffroom. Unfortunately this resulted in one of his ears being bitten and him losing the bottom bit of his ear, after he kept having a go at one of the bigger dogs.  Since then Dutchie has learnt some manners and isn’t as bossy with the other dogs. He would make a great companion as he loves attention.

On the 18th march 2013, we were on our way back to shelter after another rescue, when we saw a German shepherd at the road side. She watched us and wagged her tail as we drove past. As soon as we could we turned round and went back to her. She was so happy to see us and jumped up wrapping her paws around Tony. Moments later we were rushing about grabbing pups as her pups came up a bank and were wandering on to the road. An old couple told us they had all been dumped some time before and they had been feeding them. Sadly some of the pups had already been killed on the road. We brought Mary and her pups back to the shelter.  Doris is one of Mary’s pups.  Although her mum is a German Shepherd we do not know what the father of the pups was like. Doris is a lovely girl. she is great with people and great with other dogs.

On the 31st January 2013 we were asked to help 10 very young pups who were behind a factory. They were very close to a fast flowing river and workers were worried that the pups were now starting to wander about and they would either fall in the river and drown or else get run over. The pups were so scared that they screamed and tried to bite when we caught them. Over the following weeks they gained confidence and trust and are all now happy and sociable pups.  There were a few karakachan crosses in the factory yard so it is possible that one of them is the mother of Baldwin. Being 2nd/3rd generation cross, the pups might not show any typical karakachan traits but adopters must be aware that karakachans are naturally wary of strangers so continued socialization is very important. Baldwin has always been great with the other dogs. He can be shy when first meeting people but is fine when he gets to them.

Isha can sometimes be a little timid at coming forward for a fuss because she doesn’t like being pushed and bustled by the other pups . On her own she is a very sweet girl.  There were a few karakachan crosses in the factory yard so it is possible that one of them is the mother of Isha. Being 2nd/3rd generation cross, the pups might not show any typical karakachan traits but adopters must be aware that karakachans are naturally wary of strangers so continued socialization is very important. Isha is very sweet but a bit nervous when first meeting people so would need an experienced and patient home.

On the 21st January 2013 we rescued Selina and her litter-mates from the grounds of Smolian hospital. The pups were all terrified and living in an underground tunnel. The area  was very dangerous with drainage pipes everywhere that the pups could fall down. They were all in very bad condition. We worked hard  to gain their trust and over the days and weeks, they started to come round to us. Selina and her siblings are all very friendly now and all love a fuss. She is a friendly girl who has always got on very well with other dogs.

Marita came to the shelter on the 2nd January 2013. She was brought with her mother and siblings. Her mother is a Doberman cross that was thrown out as a pup and had lived on the streets since.  Marita’s mum, Milada had suffered a lot of abuse on the streets so is very scared of people. Someone managed to catch her and the pups after children had thrown stones at them and killed one of the pups.  The pups have been at the shelter since they were very young and have no fear of people. Marita is a happy and friendly girl. She lives and plays happily with the other dogs but she does get upset at the first sign of any falling out or squabbling between other dogs and takes herself well away from the situation, usually back to her pen.

While we were waiting for transport to pick up our adopted dogs on the 23 February 2012, we were all inside having a cup of tea inside, to our surprise when we went out again we found 5 pups in a box by the gate. Kazan was born around the 2nd February 2012. He is a confident and outgoing boy who loves people. He gets on with most dogs but there have been a few times when he hasn't been so good with adult male dogs.

Baz was found by luke on the 12th July 2012. It was late evening and Baz was all alone. He was a friendly pup and so happy that someone was giving him attention that he stayed with luke. Luke took him home that night and he is now at the shelter.  He lives quite happily with dogs and pups both older and younger than himself. He has a lovely nature and enjoys a cuddle.

On the 12th august 2012 we saw a little black pup running about the middle of the road. When we stopped and got out of the car, he ran off screaming. We followed him and Tony managed to catch him. He was identical to Kissinger who had been found previously in the same area so we are certain that they are brothers. Zorro was very skinny and hungry. He was terrified of people but it didn't take him long to come round to people. He is now happily sharing a pen with other pups. He is sociable with every dog and pup that he has met here and loves getting a fuss and attention.

In the summer of 2013 we noticed a green reflection from Zorro's eyes in the sunlight. His eyesight gradually deteriorated and we aren't sure how much he can actually see until he has a proper assessment.

Zorro was seen by an eye specialist in February 2014. It is thought that he has little if any sight. the most likely cause is progressive retinal atrophy. To see Zorro at the shelter, no one would suspect that he is blind. He runs and plays with the other dogs and never has any trouble getting about. Out of his familiar environment, it is noticeable, so he needs a special home with a family who can help him adjust and accept his blindness.

On the 21st April 2012, a couple turned up at the shelter in the evening asking if we could take a dog. We explained that we were sorry but had no room and no spare pens. At 9pm a car was outside repeatedly blasting its horn. Tony went out to see who it was and it was the same people who just left the dog and drove off without saying a word. Tika was born around the 17th December making her about four and a half months. She had a collar on which was much too tight. She is a lovely natured girl and very friendly with people and other dogs

Soyala and her nine pups were rescued on the 10th January 2012. She was trying to fend for herself and her nine tiny pups whilst there was 3 foot of snow. One of the pups had become stuck where snow and ice had frozen around it. Soyala was very thin and scared and covered in cuts. She has now started to gain confidence and wags her tail when she sees us. The pups are all doing well. Pauline is one of Soyala’s pups.

Pauline is a very affectionate and happy girl who has been great friends with everyone she meets. She has been at the shelter since being a tiny pup so it will be a big change for her leaving the only people she has ever known and the security of the other dogs. We feel she will settle quicker if she goes to a home with another stable and calm dog.

Lonnie

Lonnie was born here on the 25th November 2011. Her mother is Nina, a lovely natured girl who we rescued from the streets. Nina was ear tagged which meant she had supposedly been spayed. All the pups are very happy and playful. They love attention and like to sneak through to play with the bigger dogs.

Lonnie is a lovely natured girl who gets on really well with the other dogs. She has been at the shelter all her life so it will be a big change for her when she is finally adopted and she has to leave the only home and people she has ever known. We feel that she would be better suited to a quiet household, preferably with another very stable and relaxed dog which would help her to settle.

Puddin has been with us since the 7th October 2011, when she was left outside the shelter in a box as a tiny pup. She has always been very loving with people and great with other dogs. Having been at the shelter for so long, it will be a big change for her to leave us so a new family would have to appreciate that she might take time to settle. She may settle straight away but it is sometimes harder for the dogs that have been with us longer.

Jigger had a very bad start in life when he was rescued from a factory with his siblings and his mother who had a broken leg and had been shot. We didn’t know if all the pups would survive but with a lot of care they all grew stronger and are now happy healthy pups. Jigger is a very happy and friendly boy who just loves attention.

On the 28th July 2011 we found a mother dog and her tiny pups that had been dumped in the middle of a busy road. The mother was a small to medium Barak/terrier cross. Casey was  one of the pups. He has been with us for over three years now so it is time he had his own family and home. Casey has always loved people and got on well with other dogs. The only thing that does sometimes upset him is when dogs become over exuberant about sniffing him and a couple of times he has given them a warning grumble.

Arnold

Gender:  Male

Born: 2008

Size:  Medium

Measurements:  TBA

Coat/Hair:  Medium

Spayed/Neuter: Yes

On the 10 September 2011, Arnold turned up in Rudozem when he was dumped after being caught and castrated in another town. Kerry saw him one day and he followed her into the post office, since then he has followed Kerry whenever he sees her. Latley he has started living outside Kerry and Kostas appartment, barking all night to get Kerrys attention. This didn't go down very well with neighbours and we were concerned that someone would shoot him. We brought him to the shelter where he would be safe. He has now got used to other people and been microchipped and vaccinated. He was born around 2008.

Arnold has now been at the shelter for three years. He is used to mixing with other dogs and is now confident around people and loves a fuss.

Sadie

Sadie

Gender: Female

Born: Approx September 2009

Size: Medium-large

Hair: Medium

Spayed: Yes

Photo Album Link: http://www.streetdogrescue.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=9376658

Sadie was on the streets for a long time and was very scared of people. It took months to even get close enough to her to feed her. Eventually she came to trust us and we were able to bring her home. She is now a very loving dog and loves attention. She gets on well with the other dogs. Sadie looks to have German Shepherd in her and her behaviour is typical of a German Shepherd. She will bark if strangers come to the gate. she wouldn't let someone she doesn't know come in. once people are in and she is introduced to them then she is fine.

UPDATE  - Sadie is now getting on very well meeting strangers so this is no longer an issue.

She has now been at the shelter some time and would be really benefit from an experienced owner as she does have guarding tendencies in her - typical GSD behaviour.  She hasn't displayed any of these tendencies in the last couple of years but she might become protective again when settled in her own home.

Pom Pom

Pom Pom

Gender:  Female

Born: January 2010

Size: Small to Medium

Measurements: Approx 50cm tall and weighs 15kg

Coat/Hair:  Short to Medium

Spayed/Neuter:  Yes

Photo Album Link:  http://www.streetdogrescue.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=13401603

Pom Pom was brought to the shelter on the 12th May 2012. She had four tiny pups who were less than 10 days old and didn't even have their eyes open. The man that brought them here told us to kill them if we couldn't keep them or he would kill them.

Pom Pom is particular with certain people.  Due to her issues, there is the possibility if she was transported direct to the adopters house (instead of Kennels collection) then we would look at her now being adopted.  There is an extra cost for delivery direct to adopters house and we would need to get a quote for it.

Pom Pom is good with strangers outside her pens, but does have issues with people approaching her inside her pen.  She also has issues with being groomed & trimmed so would need to be taken to the vets, to be put under anaesthetic to be groomed & trimmed as well as when getting her vacccinations.

She would need an experienced owner committed to understanding her above issues.

Shyanne

Shyanne

Gender: Female

Born: July 2010

Size: Medium

Coat: Medium

Spayed: Yes

Photo Album Link: http://www.streetdogrescue.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=10810524

Shyanne was found on the road near a factory with her sister Lisa in 2010. People in the factory had been feeding the pups. The pups were quite timid but soon learnt to trust people.

Shyanne is a very loving girl. She is good with children and other dogs. She has a very stable temperament and has always been very good at teaching the young pups and younger dogs to behave. She would put them in their place without any excessive aggression.  Shyanne had a bad ligament injury when she was younger. This caused her to limp for several years.  Her mobility isn't affected in any way but sometimes her limp is still noticeable.  Shyanne needs a loving and stable home with a garden. She isn't quite as confident as she was when she was younger so sometimes needs a little reassurance when meeting new people. She loves her walks by the river and should be allowed exercise at her own pace.
